A Case of Coats¢¥s Disease Treated with Argon Laser Photocoagulation

Abstract
Coats¢¥s disease is primarily retinal vascular abnormality. This may forms retinal mass or causes retinal detachment or secondary glaucoma, etc., resulting progressive deterioration of the visual acuity and sometimes needs enucleation due to intractable complication. Visna disturbance restrict one¢¥s physical activity and anophthalmos causes bed cosmetic appearance.
Cryotherapy or photocoagulation to the lesion can suppress the progression of the Coats¢¥s disease. There are several reports about treatment of the disease, but we have no experience in Korea. Argon laser beam(spot size; 200¥ì, power; 200~700 mW, duration; 0.2~0.5 second) was radiated to the entire surface of the lesion every week for three times. They progression of the disease was stopped after one month, but a new vessel was grown from the irradiated surface. The new vessel was also ceased with photocoagulation. There was no other significant trouble during treatment.
